Nutraceutical Corporation (Park City, Utah), one of the largest dietary supplement manufacturers and distributors in the U.S., will be launching a line of herbal dietary supplements made by Balestra & Mech (Vicenza, Italy). TAI worked with both partners to create a distribution and marketing agreement for over one year and the products are now expected to show up in retailers throughout the U.S. by Q2, 2006. The line of liquid herbal tonics addressing a variety of common health-related conditions will target growing demand for ultra high quality herbal supplements with innovative delivery mechanisms. TAI facilitated the relationship between the parties and has provided assistance on a full range of issues including product selection, package design, regulatory compliance, collateral marketing materials and import-export logistics. Tullia Calcagnile, Balestra & Mech USA Marketing and Sales Manager, says, "We have a 100 year track record of success in Europe but we needed to access necessary expertise in order to launch our products in the US. TAI develops and trademarks a new fair wage product certification program.
Working in conjunction with USAID, TAI developed a product certification program that warranties - for a specific product - that all workers in the supply chain are making above minimum wage in the country they are working. This certification fills the need of ensuring that field workers and factory workers in whatever country a product is produced are getting a livable wage. The first product to be certified is the Nabali Fair Wage Olive Oil produce in Amman, Jordan. Site visits, employee interviews, and a review of payroll were conducted to ensure compliance with certification requirements. Next up for consideration for certification are pomegranate juice from Azerbaijan and gourmet honey from Mexico.
